USB
On the USB ports, you can connect external devices that also have a USB
port (e.g. a printer, a scanner or a modem).
Thanks to the built-in USB charging function, you can charge or supply power to a
connected USB device even when the notebook is switched off (e.g. you could charge
a PDA or a mobile phone or connect a USB lamp).
The power supply unit must be connected before the notebook is switched
off, as otherwise the USB charging function will not be active and
connected USB devices will not be charged.
Some USB devices (e.g. mobile telephony) require a driver in order to utilise the USB
charging function. In this case the USB charging function will not work when the
notebook is switched off, as no drivers are active when the notebook is switched off.
USB devices are hot-pluggable. This means you can connect and disconnect
devices while your operating system is running.
USB 1.x has a maximum data transfer rate of 12 Mbit/s.
USB 2.x has a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbit/s.
Additional information can be found in the documentation for the USB devices.
