Setting the Dynamic Range
([
DYNAMIC RANGE])
Available Shooting modes:
s
(

p.51
)
Sets the dynamic range used for photographed images.
Wide dynamic range is effective for the following scenes.
• Buildings with highlight and shadow
• Subjects in high contrast (sun light and sea waves,
strong sun light and red leaves, a portrait under a blue
sky, etc.)
• White subjects (buildings, animals, a portrait in white
cloth)
[AUTO]: The camera automatically varies the dynamic
range between 100% and 400% according to
the scene being shot before taking the picture.
This mode suppresses white flaring and black
patches in scenes with high contrast while also
enabling you to achieve good levels of contrast
in pictures taken indoors or in cloudy weather
where a wide dynamic range is not needed.
[
100%], [
200%], [
400%]:
Takes the picture with a fixed dynamic range
value, regardless of the scene being shot.
CAUTION
• When dynamic range is set to 200 % or 400 %, some
[
ISO] settings cannot be selected. Also, some
[
DYNAMIC RANGE] settings may not be selectable
depending on the [
ISO] setting.
• Only [AUTO] can be selected for the [
DYNAMIC
RANGE] setting while [
TOP 12] or [
FINAL 12] is
set.
• Only [AUTO] can be selected for the [
DYNAMIC
RANGE] setting while [
FinePix COLOR] is set to
[
p
-CHROME].
• Although wider dynamic range settings will allow you to
take pictures with good levels of contrast, they will also
increase the amount of speckling in your images.
Choose the dynamic range setting that best suits the
conditions.
