Overload coupling: Measuring the thickness of the fric -

Take off the side guard panel
Use a sliding gauge to measure the
thickness of the friction linings (52)

Changing the braking lever
The braking lever is changed complete with the friction linings, as a single all-in-one wear -
ing part for the overload coupling.
Open up the VR 4040
Take off the side guard panel
Undo the screw (23) of the limitation eccentric (13)
Undo the screw (40) at the bottom rod-end (38)
Unhook the spring (6)
Detach the spring (6) mounting plate (36)

Undo the three screws (37) and take them out, complete with their washers (41)
Straighten the bent tab of the tab washer (14)
Loosen the shaft nut (12) by turning it with a hook spanner
Detach the tab washer (14)
Detach the spacer ring (31)
Detach the six cup springs (32)
Detach the friction disc (33)
Detach the braking lever (3)
On the braking lever (3), undo the counter-nut (34) (width-across 13) of the rod (35)
Unscrew the rod (35)
Screw the rod (35) into the new braking lever (3), so that the end of the rod (35) is flush
with the braking lever (3) at the other end of the threaded hole
Tighten the counter-nut (34) (width-across 13) to fix the rod in place
Before placing the new braking lever (3) in position, push the damper all the way in
(see: “Damper”)
Place the new braking lever (3) in position
Position the friction disc (33) with the polished surface facing towards the VR 4040
Replace the cup springs (32) as shown in the diagram

When replacing the cup springs (32), make sure that there are always matching
pairs of cup springs (32) facing one another, as shown in the diagram.
Replace the spacer ring (31)
