SC VICE
A.- Functioning.
The vice works by simply turning the handle. The handle can be inserted into the hex keys on each side
of the spindle.
The threaded spindle (1) works the function of clamping towards the centre, and so one of its sides has
a left-hand thread and the other has a right-hand thread. The spindle is fixed in the centre of the body
and secured by the workpiece (7).
If the workpiece to be clamped requires jaw opening to its outer limit, the cap key will probably not fit
into its housing. In this case, either an Allen bolt or a hex screw should be screwed onto the end of the
threaded spindle to be able to move the movable carriages towards the inside the of the body, until the
cap key can function.
Before starting to turn the handle, the clamping pressure can be adjusted as required using a torque
wrench, depending on the characteristics of the workpiece to be clamped (type of material, type of
operation, type of clamping, etc.).
The force obtained according to the torque applied is shown in the table below:
4 Nm ......1.25 Ton
8 Nm........2.00Ton.
10Nm.......3.00Ton.
12Nm……4.00Ton.
In the case of the SC 090 vice, it is not recommended to exceed 80 Nm.
The vice has two movable carriages, which the clamping jaws are bolted onto. These jaws are reversible
and symmetrical. Different clamping lengths can be obtained by changing their position. These jaws are
supplied with a step and two threaded holes to secure the parallels or special clamps required in each
case.
B.- Cleaning.
For correct functioning, it is vital that the inside of the vice is kept clean.
To prevent swarf damage, the spindle is protected by two scrapers, one on each side of the central part,
inside the movable carriage.
For thorough cleaning, remove the two bolts in the part (10), take out the pins (8), and unscrew the
spindle to clean the inside of the nuts.
Correct maintenance can only be carried out using good coolant and anti-oxidant substances.
C. Correct use.
There is an oiling hole on each side of the vice with its corresponding manual oiler. The vice
requires frequent lubrication, depending on the use to which it is put. This will prevent stiffness
of movement or the vice seizing up.
Overtight clamping is not recommended. Elements such as large tubes or long-handled spanners
should be avoided and it should not be hit with hammers etc. The wrench supplied with the vice will be
sufficient.
