Configuration
2.2 Making Computer System Connections
When you have configured your CMB2103, you are ready to connect it to your computer system:
1. Make sure that power is disconnected.
2. If you will use RS232 communication directly with your host computer, connect an RS232
cable between CMB2103 connector J60 or J61 and the appropriate serial port of your
computer.
3.
If you will use a Motorola EBDI (or other OnCE-compatible emulator) with your
CMB2103, connect an appropriate 14-lead ribbon cable between CMB2103 connector J6
and your emulator. Then use an appropriate cable to connect your emulator to your host
computer.
4.
Optional: You may use the CMB2103 with an MPFB1200 platform board. To do so, you
must connect the boards via their MAPI rings. Hold the CMB2103 directly above the other
board. Turn the CMB2103 so that the right-triangle silk screen markings line up. Then press
the CMB2103 down onto the other board. CMB2103 connectors J1 through J4, on the
bottom of the board, must connect with the corresponding MAPI connectors P1 through P4,
on the top of the other board.
5.
Optional: You may use a logic analyzer with the CMB2103. If you do, connect appropriate
cables to any of the logic analyzer connectors: J14, J15, or J16. Such a cable must terminate
with a compatible Mictor connector. Section 4 includes pin assignments and cable
descriptions for the logic analyzer connectors.
6.
Optional: You may use ETAS ETK communication with your emulator. To do so, connect
an appropriate cable between CMB2103 connector J5 and the corresponding connector of
your emulator. Section 4 includes pin assignments and signal descriptions for connector J5.
7.
Optional: You may use either of two automotive-electronics interfaces for communication
with an emulator. (Jumper header W6 selects the interface)
•
For CAN-protocol communication, connect an appropriate cable between CMB2103
connector J58 and the corresponding connector of your emulator.
•
For J1850-protocol communication, connect an appropriate cable between CMB2103
connector J52 and the corresponding connector of your emulator.
8.
If you are using the CMB2103 as a standalone tool, connect your 12-volt power supply to
line power and to CMB2103 connector J56. Turn on power: green LEDs DS6 and DS7 light
to confirm that the CMB2103 is powered and converting input voltage.
Should the LEDs not light, you may need to replace the fuse at location F1, next to power
connector J56. (Use a BUS GMA-1.5A fuse, or compatible.)
9.
If you did connect the CMB2103 to a platform board, apply power to the platform board per
its instructions. CMB2103 green LEDs DS6 and DS7 light to confirm that the CMB2103 is
powered and converting input voltage. (As for step 8, should the LEDs not light, you may
