Signature Pattern Update (Web Mail, IM, P2P)
In order to efficiently filter emails and inspect the use of IM and P2P software, the
signature patterns need to be updated from Freedom9’s update server.
For authorized customers of the ICR appliance, system will automatically check for the
signature pattern update at a certain time each day (randomly determined by the
appliance).
The manual update can also be performed under Record/Setting page.
User Name Binding
User name binding is useful to identify the users/clients in the internal network that being
captured by the ICR appliance.
For company using fixed IP addresses, binding to IP Address (User Name-IP binding) is
commonly used. Online activities recorded from the same IP address will be seen as from
the same user.
For company using DHCP distributed addresses, select MAC Address (User Name-MAC
binding). Binding user name with MAC address helps avoid IP address from unauthorized
use by others.
Two name binding methods can be chosen depends on the topology of the internal network
and how is the ICR appliance deployed.
If a router/gateway is used and positioned between the ICR appliance and the internal network,
the IP address that ICR appliance can recognized from the network traffic, will be the MAC
address of the router/gateway. In this case, User Name-MAC binding should be used in order
to identify different users in the network.
