1.8 Laser Pointer and Illuminator
The Lasers is a class 3B
NON
-eye safe laser module according to
EN 60826-1 and A2.2001. Weave length of 830 nm, maximum power 80 mW
The Lasers is inhibited by the weight on wheels signal. The weight on wheels signal
disconnects the laser and prevents the laser to be inadvertently fired on the ground.
It also has two separate arming switches for preventing in adverted firing.
The Lasers are also inhibited in LOS zone to prevent firing on the airframe structure.
For safety reason a filter is attached to the window making the Lasers eye safe. This
safety filter shall always be mounted on ground and during service to the system and
aircraft. The safety filter shall only be removed before flight.
Laser Pointer & Illuminator WARNING
The Laser does not have any safety distance and may cause permanent damage to
the eyes. The Laser Pointer beam is normally reduced to eye safe levels after 700-
800 meters in normal atmospheric conditions. The Laser Illuminator beam is
normally reduced to eye safe levels after 300-400 meters in normal atmospheric
conditions. However if looked at with binoculars the beam may be harmful over
great distances. Even reflected beams may be harmful.
The Lasers may not at any time be aimed directly against personnel or targets
containing personnel.
The Lasers must be Off and safe guarded when the aircraft in close proximity of
personnel or other vehicle.
