13.6 Cleaning and disinfecting the transport trailer
Basic principle:
Livestock transport vehicles as well as all containers and equipment used to carry live animals must be
cleaned and disinfected after every transport.
Exception:
"This does not apply when the operator uses his own livestock transport vehicles to transport his own
animals for non-commercial purposes (Art. 17 Sec. 1 of the livestock transport regulation (VVVO))
Contrary to the exceptions specified in the driving personnel regulation ("own commercial activity"), the
use of the term "non-commercial" may initially seem ambiguous.
This is qualified, however, with the specification of "own livestock transport vehicles".
However:
"Livestock transport vehicles used to transport animals to loading points, collection points or
slaughterhouses must be cleaned and disinfected before leaving these
locations (…)" (Art. 17 Sec. 2,
VVVO)
"The cleaning and disinfection is the responsibility of:
1. The driver, in the case of livestock transport vehicles
2.
The user, in the case of containers and equipment (…)" (Art. 17 Sec. 4, VVVO)
In this instance, farmers are not exempted from their cleaning and disinfection duties due to the high risk
of epizootic diseases.
13.7 Space requirements for livestock transport
13.7.1 Transporting cattle
The available space for cattle must meet the following minimum requirements:

Medium-weight calves 110 0.40-0.70
Heavy calves 200 0.70-0.95
Medium-sized cattle 325 0.95-1.30
Fully grown cattle 550 1.30-1.60
