Operating as a Guide Camera
How to - Setup the camera for guiding
Hardware interface checks
The Starfish camera was designed to be used primarily as a guide camera for your tele-
scope mount. It does this by taking a picture of a star at regular intervals and determin-
ing if your mount is tracking the star accurately enough. If it detects a mount tracking
error, it will command your telescope mount to make a pointing correction in order to
keep the reference star at a fixed position.
Manual Slew controls.
You will need to attach the Starfish
‘
GUIDER
’
port to
the guide port on your telescope mount. See the
hardware installation section of this manual for more
information.
Verify that the starfish camera is properly interfaced to
your mount. Open the camera control application and
click on the
‘
Telescope Control
’
window.
Press one of the manual slew control buttons in the
window and, if everything is OK, the telescope mount
will slew in the desired direction. Press each of the
slew buttons to make certain that the telescope
responds to commands in each of the four directions.
You will also see a visual indication of mount control
via the status LEDs on the back of the camera.
