ATTENTION: Check circulation
During the ventilating process repeated checks must be made
to check the cooling water is indeed circulating. If there are air
bubbles in the internal cooling water pump, it is possible that
the cooling water is not circulating. The generator will heat up
very quickly and switch off, because of overheating
.
5.4.6.1 Anti-freeze in the cooling water circuit
In the interest of safety, the concentration of the coolant should be checked on a regular basis. Be sure that the
coolant/antifreeze mixture is good for at least -15 °C (5 °F) which is recommended by the manufacturer. If your
genset experiences lower temperatures, for example during storage or transportation, then the entire cooling system
should be drained. The coolant also serves as corrosion protection of the engine.
5.4.7 Temperature check for controlling the cooling water circuit
Check with an IR-thermometer if a temperature difference exists between cooling water in-flow and cooling water
return flow.
The cooling water in-flow line can be measured directly at the internal cooling water pump.
The cooling water return pipe can be measured either at the outlet of the water-cooled exhaust elbow or at the side
where this pipe enters the heat exchanger.
The temperature difference between in-flow and return should be approx 2-3 °C at nominal rating.
