Hearth Requirements
Local building codes may require a minimum hearth requirement different of what this manual states
Hearth must extend 20" in front of the faceplate when it is not elevated (see local building codes).
Hearths raised at least 6" must extend a minimum 18".
Hearth must extend a minimum 8" to both sides of the door opening (44” wide)
Hearth must be a minimum 1" thick of Durock Next Generation Cement Board (or equivalent material)
with an R-value of 1.00. Multiple cement boards may be stacked to meet the required R-value of
1.00. For example, two half-inch boards each with an R-value of 0.5 can be stacked together to meet
the 1.00 requirement.
Hearth must not rise more than 6-3/8" above the base of the fireplace
