GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The AS-422 electronic siren is a modern remote controlled siren with public address functions,
which also includes two keys to control two light systems.
The equipment can be said to consist of three sections: amplifier, control head and connection box.
The amplifier is a metal box containing the electronic circuits of the amplifier, the tone generator
and two relays for light control. The following wires should be connected to the amplifier:
-Power cables from the battery.
-Output wires to the speaker.
-Radiotelephone and horn connection wires.
-Connecting wires to the two light systems.
-Control head-amplifier interconnection.
The control head,
( see Fig.0, Page.46)
, has 8 keys to control the siren and public address
functions, and two keys for the light system control (warning and auxiliary lights). The microphone for
the public address function is also included.
The connection box, fitted between the amplifier and the control head, includes the ON/OFF
switch and public address volume control.
The design of this siren is intended to ease the work of installation. The compact size and the fact
that the microphone is included in the remote control unit, facilitate the choice of site for the installation:
it is therefore unnecessary to sacrifice the radiocassette housing for this purpose.
The control head can be installed in positions exposed to the elements, and is suitable for either
automobiles or motorbikes.
CONFIGURATION FOR FAILURE DETECTION IN MAIN WARNING LIGHTS
Regulation in some European Community countries specifies that if one of the main warning lights
fails, an indicator must be fitted to notify the driver. The main warning light control in this equipment can
fulfil this requisite but to do so, the position of the internal bridges in the amplifier must be changed. For
further information, see “APPENDIX 1”. (Page.26)
IMPORTANT
The amplifier and the connection box are not waterproof. They should be preferably installed in
areas which will not be splashed by water. The control head can be exposed to the elements
(motorbikes), although the use of pressurised water jets during washing should be avoided.
Do not invert polarity of the power cables: RED: + 12V BATTERY
BROWN: NEG. BATTERY
If polarity has been inverted, the fuse F1 (15 A) inside the amplifier will blow and will have to be
replaced (
see page 45
: COMPONENT LAYOUT).
