The 2 in the formula reflects the fact that one turn of the mirror creates two 
columns in the scan. 
 
Example: 
For a scan duration of 1h with 1/10 resolution and 4x X-Control, the 
expected number of columns is:

certain amount of columns has been reached.

The minimum number is 1000. Smaller scan files are not supported. 
For each file, the scan number will be increased and appended to the scan 
file base name. The progress dialog will show the current scan file name and
