TANGENTIAL CONTROL.
"Tangential Control" Keeps a rotary axis always in the same orientation with respect to the
programmed path. The machining path is defined in the axes of the active plane and the CNC
keeps the orientation of the rotary axis along the whole path.
Turning tangential control on and off.
The CNC does not activate tangential control on power-up; it is activated via part-program.
Tangential control may be active on several axes. Once tangential control is active, the
tangential axis cannot be moved in jog or by program; the CNC is in charge of orienting this
axis.
Optionally, tangential control can also be "frozen" so it can be re-activated in the same
conditions later on.
There are two ways to program tangential control; using either ISO-coded functions or high
level commands. Both modes are equivalent and may be combined in the same part-
program.
Influence of the reset, turning the CNC off and of the M30.
Tangential control is modal. Tangential control is canceled on power-up, after executing an
M02 or M30 and after an emergency or reset.
Considerations about tangential control.
Tangential control is compatible with tool radius and length compensation. Mirror image may
also be applied while tangential control is active.
Axes allowed in tangential control.
Tangential control can only be activated on module type rotary axes. An axis of the plane
or the longitudinal axis cannot be set as tangential axis. Likewise, a tangential axis can also
be a gantry axis, including the gantry axis associated with the rotary axis.
Tool inspection.
Tool inspection is possible while tangential control is active. When going into tool inspection,
the CNC cancels tangential control so the axes can move. After quitting tool inspection, the
CNC re-activates tangential control in the same conditions as before.
Jogging the axes.
The tangential axis cannot be moved while tangential control is active. The axes not affected
by tangential control may be moved freely.
Orientation parallel to the path.
Orientation perpendicular to the path.
