ENGINE OIL
WARNING
Checking the level and changing the oil should be done
on solid and level ground. The engine has to be stopped
at all times. If the engine had been running, it will be hot
and the procedure should be done with care and neces-
sary precautions in order to avoid burn danger.
NOTE
Drain the used oil while the engine is warm. Warm oil
drains quickly and completely.
To check the oil level:
1.
Remove the oil filler cap (Fig. 7.6) from the engine
oil filler neck (Fig. 7.1).
2. Check the oil level. The oil level should reach the
lip (Fig. 7.7) of the oil filler neck. If required, add
enough oil to bring the oil level to the lip of the
oil filler neck, up to the upper level and not lower
than the lower level.
3.
Reposition the oil filler cap and tighten appropri
-
ately.
To change the oil:
1.
Remove the oil filler cap from the engine oil filler
neck.
2.
Place a suitable container (Fig. 7.3) under the oil
drain hole (Fig. 7.2) to catch the used oil.
3.
Remove the oil drain plug (Fig. 7.4) and washer
(Fig. 7.5) to allow the oil to drain completely.
4. Reposition the oil drain plug with its washer and
tighten appropriately.
5. Gradually add enough oil to bring the oil level to
the lip of the oil filler neck, up to the upper level
and not lower than the lower level.
6.
Reposition the oil filler cap and tighten appropri
-
ately.
NOTE
If the engine frequently works under extremely dusty
or other severe circumstances, change the engine oil
every 25 hours.
WARNING
Running the engine will low oil level will cause engine
damage.
AIR FILTER
WARNING
Operating the engine without an air cleaner, or with a
damaged air cleaner, will allow dirt to enter the engine,
causing rapid engine wear.
To check, clean or change the air filter:
1.
Remove the air filter cover (Fig. 8.1).
2.
Make sure that the air filter element (Fig. 8.2) is
free from dirt and in a good condition. If it is dirty,
remove and clean it.
3.
To clean a foam air filter element wash it with
home detergent and hot water and let it dry.
Then soak it in clean saturated engine oil and gen-
tly squeeze out excess oil. If required, replace it
with a new one.
To clean a paper air filter element, clean light dirt by
gently taping it a few times on a hard surface and re-
place if heavy dirt is present.
