Transfer from Wheelchair
Note: Explain each step to the patient to reduce any anxiety.
1.
Grasp the sling at each corner of the “U” shape of the commode
aperture.
2.
Help the user lean forward slightly and slide the sling down
between the patient’s back and the wheelchair upholstery with
the grab handles on the back facing outward.
3.
Position the commode aperture where the buttocks meet the
wheelchair seat
4.
Position the leg sections of the sling along the outer thighs of
the patient.
5.
Ensure the sling is centered on the patient by checking the
lengths of the leg sections when pulled forward.
6.
Draw the leg sections under the patient’s thighs ensuring they
aren’t folded over or bunched.
7.
Reposition the sling if leg sections aren’t equal length.
8.
Ensure the leg sections are midway under the thighs to
provide
good support and patient comfort.
9.
Move the lift towards the patient centering the spreader
above
the patient’s chest.
10.
Attach loop “a” of the sling to hook “A”, loop “b” to hook “B”,
loop “c” to hook “C” and loop “d” to hook “D” pf the spreader
bar.
11.
Lift the patient using the hand pendant.
12.
Pull the wheelchair away and move the lift to the bed to finish
the transfer.
Note: Reverse procedure to return the patient to their bed.
Warning: Only use slings supplied by the lift manufacturer. Using
mismatched slings can lead to accident and injury.
