EVGA SR-3 DARK (160-CX-W999)
- 81 -
For purposes of our illustration, we created a RAID0 for this guide:
Note: RAID arrays can be created over multiple VMD controllers by enabling the
“Enable RAID spanned over VMD Controllers” option. Because various
devices share PCIe lanes, this can be an effective way to avoid disabling a
slot or port that you need for another device. Moreover, this is the only
method of obtaining a RAID10 across PCIe-based NVMe SSD drives.
However, VROC RAIDs spanned over multiple VMD Controllers cannot be
configured as a boot device. Only VROC RAIDs configured within the same
VMD controller may be configured as a boot device.
Once the array is completed you will see the array shown, similar to the SATA/sSATA
RAID array shown on Page 74. At this point, the array is ready to use.
Installing an OS to an M.2/PCIe/U.2 NVMe VROC Array
Similar to RAID arrays for legacy OS, bootable VROC arrays require drivers for the OS
to see the drive during the installation and to complete installation. If you are only using
your VROC array as a non-bootable storage array, then you may install the drivers after
the OS install via the Intel
®
RSTe drivers. During your OS installation, however, you
will need to select the correct driver.
Once you reach the screen to install drivers, you will need to either use the USB drive
included with the SR-3 DARK, or download the Intel
®
RSTe
“F6” drivers from Intel’s
website. The proper driver name for the VROC driver needed follows the form of
“VROC_6.X.X.XXX”. For an example, see the screenshot below.
