Preparing the Motherboard
Installing the CPU and Cooling Device
Note: EVGA strongly recommends that you completely disconnect AC power from
your power supply prior to changing your CPU. This ensures the motherboard
will use the correct startup procedure for all onboard devices. If AC power is
not disconnected, the replacement is still supported, but may require
additional reboots to boot successfully.
Be very careful when handling the CPU. Hold the processor only by the edges and do
not touch the bottom of the processor.
Note: Use extreme caution when working with the CPU to avoid damaging the pins
in the
motherboard’s CPU socket!
Note: Do not remove the socket cover until you are ready to install the CPU and
CPU cooler. This installation guide was created without using a socket cover
to better illustrate the CPU Socket area.
Use the following procedure to install the CPU onto the motherboard.
Note: Installation steps may vary depending on your choice of cooler. These steps follow
using installation instructions of a standard Intel CPU cooler for this socket. Follow the
instructions of a third-party cooler if you purchase one separately.
Note: Make sure to thoroughly clean your hands before or wear anti-static gloves during the
installation. You will likely come into contact with the bottom of the CPU during the
installation. Debris, such as thermal paste or dust, can not only cover or scratch the
bottom of the CPU
– which can prevent the motherboard from completing POST – but
can also find its way into the CPU socket; this may not only prevent the motherboard
from completing POST, but may also void your warranty.
