TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
14. The following is a list of possible reasons for a failed file transfer:
•
The supplied “*.HEX” file is corrupt.
•
You pressed ‘X’ to upload a Firmware file instead of ‘1’ to upload a font file
•
Wrong file specified to be uploaded.
•
The PCs’ RS-232 communications port cannot handle a port speed of 19200 baud.
15. To complete the font upgrade, power-down the unit and reapply power without pressing any keys to
resume normal operation. If the Flash ROM contains valid code, the unit will resume normal
operations. If there is a problem in the new font file, you will be prompted with an error message
and remain in the bootloader.
16. If you changed jumpers at the beginning of this procedure return the jumpers to their original
positions.
5.5.
CALIBRATING THE COLOUR FRAME DETECTOR
Calibration of the colour frame detector is accomplished in software by adjusting digital potentiometer
(U23). Separate calibration values are maintained in the 8010TM’s nonvolatile memory for PAL and
NTSC. The colour frame circuitry is calibrated at the factory and should not require any field
calibration. If you do need to calibrate the colour frame detector, use the following procedure. To
enable adjustment of the NOVPOT, you need to set DIP switch 8 on the main circuit board to the On
(Closed) position. The front panel display will show a display similar to:
NTSC
COL REF: 0-99 or
PAL
COL REF: 0-99
When this message is displayed, the rightmost digits of the display indicate the value of the NOVPOT.
The numbers do not have any absolute meaning, but are only a reference used in calibration. Use the
key to adjust the NOVPOT up and the
key to adjust the NOVPOT down.
The generator COL REF VIDEO input must be connected to an RS-170-A NTSC or a 8 field PAL video
source. The unit must also be set up to operate in the colour frame mode. This is accomplished by
setting the
COLOUR FRAME
menu item to
Col’r frame 4 fld
for NTSC or
Col’r frame 8 fld
for PAL.
You will need a sync pulse generator with a colour field #1 identification pulse output and a dual
channel oscilloscope to perform the calibration.
1.
Display the colour field #1 ID pulse from your sync generator on channel A of your oscilloscope.
Set up the time base to show two pulses (usually 20 msec / div.). Set up your oscilloscope to
trigger from channel A.
2.
Connect channel B of your scope to J24 pin 16 (J24 is a long double row header located near
the front right corner of the circuit board.) See Figure 5-2 for location of J24 pin 16.
