2.3.
Testing Fall Detection
Fall tests are recorded in the control panel log. If enabled by the administrator, fall tests also issue a
medical alarm (MA). Refer to ESUGSC105 Care@Home CMS Free Fall Technical Note. Actual falls
generate a medical alarm regardless of fall test settings.
To perform the fall test:
1.
Place the HFD on a tabletop for at least 10 seconds.
2.
Pick up the HFD, hold it shoulder height and at arm’s length, and immediately drop the HFD,
preferably on a carpet.
3.
Drop the HFD from a at least 1.2 - 1.6 m (3.9 - 5.2 ft.), the height of an upright broom.
4.
Wait 20 seconds. The LED should blink green and a vocal fall notification should be issued from the
control panel.
5.
Insert HFD into the hip protector. Refer to 2.4 Inserting the HFD into the Hip Protector on page 7.

Inserting the HFD into the Hip Protector
After the HFD is paired with the control panel and tested, insert the HFD into the hip protector.
NOTE:
The HFD
must
be worn on the resident’s
right hip
.
To insert the HFD into the hip protector:
1.
Insert the HFD into the hip protector with the hook pointing downward.
