the bone, visible veins and/or hair. Sometimes there is less blood flow in
these areas than the fingertip.
To help you get enough blood, you may wash with warm water and soap, or
gently massage the site to increase the blood flow.
WARNING
We recommend that you test on your fingertips if you are testing for
hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) or if you are suffering from hypoglycemia
unawareness.
To ensure accurate results when using an alternative site for testing,
clean the test site with soap and warm water. Be sure to dry the test site
thoroughly and there are no residual creams, lotions, or fragrances on the
test site.
IMPORTANT
1. Consult with your Healthcare Professional before using alternative site
testing.
2. Choose a different puncture site each time you test. Repeated
punctures in the same spot may cause soreness and calluses.
3. If bruising occurs at an alternative site or you have difficulty getting a
sample, consider sampling from a fingertip instead. You may want to
review the choice of sites with your Healthcare Professional.
CAUTION
Do not test on your upper arm, forearm, dorsal hand, ventral palm, thigh, or
calf when you think your blood glucose is rapidly falling. For example, within
two hours of exercise, following a rapid-action insulin injection, or an insulin
pump bolus; or when testing with a fingertip sample may identify a potential
hypoglycemia or an insulin reaction sooner than by testing with a forearm or
palm sample.
CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
It is recommended the BLE Smart meter and the reusable lancing device be
cleaned and disinfected once per day at minimum.
Blood Glucose Meters and reusable lancing devices may be contaminated
with bloodborne pathogens such as Hepatitis A, B or C Virus. Transmission
of this virus has been documented in contaminated blood glucose devices.
Cleaning will remove soil and dirt on all surfaces of the devices and
disinfecting will kill/destroy the bloodborne pathogens on the devices.
Cleaning and disinfecting can be completed by CaviWipes™ Disinfecting
Towelettes or equivalent.
