SI-DeviceNet User Guide
Issue Number: 2
Event task:
A special way to use a message or change of state to trigger a software
routine.
IN data:
Data that is returned from a slave device to the DeviceNet master.
Long word:
A 32-bit data word that may be signed or unsigned.
Mapping:
The process of linking DeviceNet values to parameters within the drive.
Master:
The controlling device on the network, generally this will include programming
features.
Network Loss Trip:
A method to determine when a node has lost contact with the
master.
Node:
A device on the network. This may be either a device such as a drive or part of
the network such as a repeater.
Non-Cyclic Data:
Data that is requested or sent by the master as required. This is not
sent on a regular basis and generally allows access to any parameter. This is useful for
occasional changes or configuration purposes.
Object Dictionary:
A collection of the objects that are supported by the product.
Poll rate:
The rate at which cyclic data is sent and received on the network.
Response ID:
The response code of the message received when using PPO4 word
non-cyclic communication.
Scan rate:
See Poll rate in this section.
Shielding:
A connection to provide additional immunity to noise used on a network
cable.
Segment:
An electrically separate part of the network. Each segment requires correct
termination to ensure reliable operation. Due to electrical limitations the maximum
number of devices on a segment is limited to 32.
Slave:
A device on the DeviceNet network such as a drive or sensor. A slave device will
only respond to messages from a master.
Status word:
A value that denotes the status of the drive. Each bit within the word will
have a specific meaning.
Task ID:
The code used to describe the purpose of a message using PPO 4 word non-
cyclic communication.
Termination:
This is used at both ends of a network segment to prevent reflections and
reduce noise.
