Interactive Multicast Overview
Interactive multicast allows multiple participants to hear and view one of the
other participants in a videoconference, while each participant can request to be
heard/seen at a time. This request is sent to the primary/initiating participant,
named as the
Chair
.
This method saves bandwidth as only one person is seen/heard at a time, while
the rest are passive participants. The Chair can allow numerous participants to
join the session but the bandwidth used is for one person only. The Chair limits
the total participant bandwidth to between 64Kb to 1 Mbps.
Interactive sessions can be held for up to 99 participants at one time. During a
session, the Chair may perform the
Grant Floor
(audio and video) or
Grant
Talk
(audio only) actions, which allows a participant to take the floor and
transmit audio and video. Whenever needed, participants may perform the
Request Floor
or
Request Talk
actions on their side, and the Chair can
respond to these requests. In addition, other actions are available on both the
Chair and the participants’ side during the interactive multicast.
¾
The first person that creates the session via the
Start Multicast
window
is defined as the Chair. However, if both sides select
Start Interactive
,
neither will be defined as a participant.
