PS 2000 B Triple Series
3.4.9 Series connection
The outputs 1 and 2 can be connected in series. Series connection is done to achieve a higher output voltage,
which doubles in this case. The wiring is simple and quickly done using three cables:
In the actual series operation it can be decided to adjust the two outputs separately, but it’s more comfortable to
use tracking mode (see
). There are no special things to consider for series operation, ex-
cept that when using a 42 V model in series connection, which then can make up to 84 V, the total output voltage
would be higher than the SELV limit of 60 V.
3.4.9.1
Restrictions
•
There is no totals formation of the voltage; both displays must be read and their actual voltage added
•
When tracking mode isn’t used, the serial current is limited by the output with the lower current set value
•
Series connection of multiple devices isn’t permitted, because the total voltage could exceed the voltage withstand
of the internal insulation between DC and ground (PE).
3.4.10 Parallel connection
The output 1 and 2 can be connected in parallel. Parallel connection of multiple devices is also possible, but limited
by the max. current rating of those laboratory cables with 4 mm plugs unless custom cable and 20 A are used.
The current capability of the DC output sockets (max. 25 A) is also something to consider. We recommend to only
put models with a lower current rating in parallel, like the one with 3 A where two units could already achieve 12
A. With the 5 A model it’s already 20 A with two units.
Never connect output 3 in parallel to any other output, because these can generate much higher
voltage and could damage output 3!
Parallel connection is used to increase the total output current, which in this case doubles. However, the device
wouldn’t do totals formation on any of the displays. The wiring is simple and quickly done using four cables:
