Applying Power for the First Time
P/N 0013-1025-001 Rev F
Start-up Procedure without Tach (Torque Mode)
1. Connect motor wiring. Refer to “AC and DC Power Connections” on page 2-4
2. Jumper the velocity clamp (P2 pins 1 and 2).
3. Jumper FAC and RAC inputs to +15V (P1 pin 7).
4. Rotate all adjustments at least 16 turns CCW (to full CCW position).
5. Turn the VCS gain and COMP gain fully CW. Refer to “VCS Torque Mode Scaling
6. Turn the BAL potentiometer approximately 8 turns CW from the full CCW position.
7. Turn the ILIM potentiometer approximately 3 turns CW from full CCW position.
8. Apply AC power.
The green LED should be on, and all red LEDs should be off.
9. Jumper INHIBIT input (P1 pin 8) to +15V on (P1 pin 7) to enable the drive.
10. If the motor is not rotating, turn ILIM CW until the motor starts to rotate.
11. Apply zero volts to VCS. (Or jumper P1 pins 1 and 2).
12. Adjust the BALance potentiometer CW until the motor shaft remains stationary.
13. The COMP potentiometer should remain fully CW.
14. Set the ILIM relative to motor peak current.
a. 4 turns CW = approximately 50% peak current (with no external current limit resis-
tor.
b. 8 turns CW = approximately 70% peak current (with no external current limit resis-
tor.
c. 16 turns CW = 100% peak current (with no external current limit resistor.
The average current limit will always be 50% of the peak current limit.
15. The motor/drive system is now ready for installation.
Remove power and remove setup wiring and jumpers (except the velocity clamp).
16. Install drive and interface wiring to controller.
TIP
This procedure assumes the motor is
not connected to a load and a controller
interface is
not connected to the drive.

WARNING
If the motor accelerates toward full speed, adjust the ILIM potentiometer coun-
terclockwise until the motor is rotating slowly.
