Important note about the remote printer name
Whichever UNIX system you use, the name used for remote printer (or rp in the
/etc/printcap file) in configuring the Pi6500 Pro must be one of the following :
print
hold
The remote printer or
rp
name is also used when setting up your Windows NT 4.0
workstation or server to connect to the Pi6500 Pro over TCP/IP. Enter the remote
printer name when you set up your Windows NT 4.0 printer, as the “Name of printer
or print queue on that (lpd host) server” in the Add LPR Compatible Printer dialog
box (see Getting Started).
Setting up the Pi6500 Pro on TCP/IP networks
Every machine (host) on a TCP/IP network, including the Pi6500 Pro, must have a
unique 32-bit internet address (IP address). If the network is being set up for the first
time, it is a good idea to start out with addresses that can be used with the public
Internet. Contact your Internet service provider to obtain an address for the
Pi6500 Pro.

1. Specify the appropriate settings in Pi6500 Pro Server Setup.
To access Pi6500 Pro Setup, see page 2-1.
2. Specify the appropriate settings in Pi6500 Pro Network Setup.
Run the setups listed in the table on page 2-10 and enter a valid IP address, subnet
mask, and gateway address for the Pi6500 Pro.
3. Specify the appropriate settings in Pi6500 Pro Printer Setup.
Publish the Print queue and/or the Hold queue.
