Positioning the boxes
For really enjoying the sound experience “Surround-Sound”, you should position the
speakers approximately like this:
1. TV monitor 2. Left front speaker 3. Subwoofer
4. Center speaker 5. Right front speaker 6. Left surround speaker
7. Right surround speaker 8. Listener’s position
The front speakers reproduce the front stereo effect, the center transmits in most of the
cases the performers’ dialogues. The surround speakers create the three-dimensional
sound impression by reproducing ambient noises complying with the scene. The subwoofer
produces the acoustic base and completes the sound experience.
The speaker arrangement cannot always be implemented optimally, the following points
should, however, always be considered when positioning the speakers:
The following applies to the front and center speakers:
Ø
Position these speakers all on the same level with each other, best on the listener’s ear
level.
Ø
These speakers should radiate in the direction of the listener.
Ø
The speakers should all have the same distance to the listener’s position.
The following applies to the surround speakers:
Ø
These speakers should exceed the listener’s ear level by approximately 1 meter.
The following applies to the subwoofer:
Ø
In the ideal case, the subwoofer should be situated between the two front speakers. If
this is not possible, experiment with the arrangement until you have the optimal overall
impression of your system. In many cases, the positioning in the corner of the room
assists in the sound propagation.
