• The Dolby NR system is a method of reducing the hiss
noise inherent to cassette tapes. There are two types:
Dolby B, the most commonly used type, and Dolby C,
which reduces noise even further.
• Hiss noise is high frequency noise that is particularly
noticeable at pianissimo parts of recordings. The Dolby
NR system increases the level of the high frequencies
during recording (encoding) and decreases this level
during playback (decoding). This decreases the level of
the hiss noise, thereby reducing noise during playback.
• Dolby type C functions on the same principles as type
B, but uses different encoding and decoding
characteristics. Type B reduces noise by a maximum of
10 dB, while type C reduces noise by up to 20 dB.
Furthermore, type C uses an anti-saturation network
and a spectral skewing circuit, thereby greatly improving
the dynamic range at medium and high frequencies.
• This set is equipped with the Dolby HX Pro system. Dolby HX Pro automatically controls the bias according to the
levels of the frequency components of the input signal to improve the high frequency dynamic range and frequency
response.
• In addition, Dolby HX Pro is activated automatically during recording, so the same improvement can be achieved when
cassette tapes recorded on this cassette deck are played on other cassette decks not equipped with the Dolby HX Pro
system.

Setting the Recording Level
• Setting the appropriate recording level is the most important factor for achieving clear, well-balanced recordings.
• To set the recording level, watch the level meter and set the recording level control (REC LEVEL) using the values
shown below as reference.
• The maximum recording level for achieving quality sound differs according to the type of cassette tape.

Reverse modes

The mode for selecting the reverse mode is set by pressing the reverse mode selector button (REVERSE) for at least
2 seconds.
The reverse mode switches in the order shown below each time the button is pressed.

If the button is not pressed within 5 seconds, the reverse mode selection mode is canceled and
the normal mode is set.

• The stop mode is set automatically once the end of the tape is reached during recording or playback.

• In this mode, recording or playback automatically switches to side B once the end of side A is reached, and
recording or playback continues on side B.
• The stop mode is set automatically once the end of side B of the tape is reached during recording or playback.

Continuous play mode (
)
• In this mode, sides A and B are played repeatedly.
• If this mode is set during recording, the set automatically operates in the same way as in the two-side mode.
