Beep Codes and System Messages
T
he information in this appendix replaces the informa-
tion about beep codes and system messages described in
your Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Guide. Use the
information in this appendix for descriptions of any beep
codes emitted by your system or system messages dis-
played on the screen by the system basic input/output
system (BIOS). If the corrective action for a beep code or
error message requires troubleshooting a problem, refer
to Chapter 5 in your Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
Guide for information on running the appropriate system
diagnostics test(s).
NOTE: The system diagnostics is run directly from the
Dell Server Assistant CD. See Chapter 2, “Using the Dell
Server Assistant CD,” for information on running the
CD.

ystem Error Messages
Table F-1 lists system error messages that can be gener-
ated by the system BIOS.

System battery is dead
- Replace and run Setup
The battery on the system
board is dead.
Replace the battery on the system board and run
the System Setup program to restore your sys-
tem configuration.
System CMOS checksum
bad - Run Setup
The CMOS configuration
data is corrupted.
Run the System Setup program to restore your sys-
tem configuration.
Incorrect drive A type
- Run Setup
The installed diskette drive
does not match the diskette
drive type in CMOS.
Run the System Setup program to correct the diskette
drive type. See “Diskette Drive A and Diskette Drive
B” in Chapter 4.
Incorrect drive B type
- Run Setup
The installed diskette drive
does not match the diskette
drive type in CMOS.
Run the System Setup program to correct the diskette
drive type. See “Diskette Drive A and Diskette Drive
B” in Chapter 4.
Keyboard error
A cable or connector may be
loose, or the keyboard may
be faulty.
Check the keyboard cable and connector for
proper connection. If the problem persists, run
the Keyboard Test Group in the system diagnos-
tics to determine whether the keyboard or the
keyboard controller is faulty. See the chapter
titled “Running the Diskette-Based Diagnostics”
in your Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Guide.
