Section 3 - Configuration
DNS
Domain name system (DNS) is an Internet service that translates
domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are
alphabetic, they are easier to remember. The Internet, however, is
actually based on IP addresses. Each time you use a domain name,
a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP
address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might
be translated to 198.105.232.4.
The DNS system is, in fact, its own network. If one DNS server
does not know how to translate a particular domain name, it asks
another one, and so on, until the correct IP address is returned.
If you are using the device for DHCP service on the LAN or using
DNS servers on your ISP’s network, select
IPv4 static DNS
or
IPv6 static DNS
as appropriate and enter the IP addresses in the
available entry fields for the preferred DNS server and the alternate
DNS server.
