S SC150e HARDWARE REFERENCE

3. PRODUCT OVERVIEW

3.1 Overview

The S SC150e cards are backwards compatible with S and the

original SCRAMNet

Classic product with the exception of the GOLD RING

communication protocol.
The S SC150e products use an enhanced architecture where shared memory

read operations bypass the SCRAMNet ASIC for improved performance. Although both

PIO and DMA operations are improved, DMA operations will give the greatest increase

in performance. For PIO read operations, the overall system performance is also

improved as read latency is reduced, the number of PCI retries is decreased, and the PCI

bus utilization is improved. However, the performance increase is limited by PIO

accesses by the host
