CAUTION !
ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN WORKING
ON PUMPS.
CAUTION !
PRESSURE BUILDS UP EXTREMELY FAST, INCREASE
PRESSURE BY "TAPPING" AIR NOZZLE. TOO MUCH
PRESSURE WILL DAMAGE SEAL. DO NOT EXCEED 10

F-2) Impeller and Volute Service:
F-2.1) Disassembly and Inspection:
To clean out volute (13) or replace impeller (17) or replace
U-cup (16), disconnect power, remove hex nuts (22),
lockwashers (35) and cap screws (20), vertically lift motor and
seal plate assembly from body (13). Clean out body if
necessary. Check U-cup (16) for damage, if U-cup (16) needs
replacement, cut the U-cup from volute (13) and clean surface
of the bore. Clean and examine impeller (17), for cracks or
breakage and replace if required, inspect gasket (18) and
replace if cut or damaged. If the impeller (17) needs replacing,
turn pump upside down and remove cap screw (14) and
washers (15) from shaft. (Seal spring relaxes when impeller is
removed and may cause oil from lower seal to leak through).
Hold the motor shaft stationary with a flat screwdriver placed
in the slotted shaft end. Turn the impeller (17) counterclockwise
to loosen.
F-2.2) Reassembly:
To install impeller (17), screw impeller onto the shaft hand tight.
It is important that the spring of the lower shaft seal (10) seats
in the hub of the impeller (17). Place washers (15) onto cap
screw (14). Apply thread locking compound to the threads of
cap screw (14) and tighten into shaft. Rotate impeller to check
for binding.
Install U-cup (16) by first applying adhesive to bore of volute
(13). Be sure not to get adhesive on inside diameter of U-cup
(16). Position gasket (18) on volute flange and reposition volute
onto motor and impeller assembly, aligning for fasteners.
CAUTION:
When assembling volute (13) to the rest of the
pump be sure the inside lip of the U-cup (16) is not pushed out
of place. (See Figure 3.) Position cap screws (20) through
volute (13) and motor housing (5). Place lockwashers (35) and
hex nuts (22) onto cap screws (20) and tighten.
F-3) Shaft Seal Service:
CAUTION !
HANDLE SEAL PARTS WITH EXTREME CARE. DO
NOT SCRATCH OR MAR LAPPED SURFACES.
F-3.1) Disassembly and Inspection:
Outer Seal-
To expose shaft seal (10) for examination
disassemble volute and impeller as outlined in paragraph
F-2.1. Drain oil from seal cavity as outlined in paragraph F-1.3.
If further repair is required remove retaining ring (10d), spring
(10c) and rotating member (10b) from shaft (see Fig. 4).
Examine all seal parts and especially contact faces. Inspect
seal for signs of wear such as uneven wear pattern on
stationary members, chips and scratches on either seal face.
DO NOT
interchange seal components, replace the entire shaft
seal (10). If replacing seal, remove stationary (10a) by prying
out with flat screw driver.
