Emptying the fuel tank
Prior to long-term storage, the fuel tank of the generator should be drained of petrol. Petrol is perishable and
can, if it is left standing in the fuel tank for a long time, cause starting problems due to deposits clogging
the carburettor.
Warning:
Empty the fuel tank in a well-ventilated area, outdoors and be aware of the fire hazard.
1. Set the engine switch/fuel cut-off valve (1) to
0 OFF
.
2. Undo the maintenance cover screw and remove the cover.
3. The fuel line has a joint in it (C) where it can be split. Pinch together one of the hose clips and disconnect one
side of the joint. Hold the end of fuel line away from the generator and drain the fuel into a suitable container.
4. Raise the generator up so that it is higher than the fuel collection container.
5. Open the engine switch/fuel cut-off valve (1) and let all the petrol run out.
6. Reconnect the ends of the fuel line together.
7. Open the drain plug (D) under the carburettor and drain the fuel through the hose into a suitable container.
Note:
Do not store fuel from one season to the next as the fuel could become too old.
Checking the fuel line
Undo the maintenance cover screw and remove the cover. Check all the fuel hoses for leaks, visible cracks or
other damage. Not all of the fuel hoses are visible when the maintenance cover has been removed. It is possible
to remove the black cover over the electrical connections which is held in place by 4 screws. Indications of
a fuel leak are the smell of petrol and drops underneath the generator.
Checking the choke
Undo the maintenance cover screw and remove the cover. Make sure that the choke control is intact and can
be moved all the way to the right (closed) and left (open).
Checking the cooling system
Check that the ventilation openings are clear. The ventilation openings supplying the air to the engine cooling
system are located in several places on the generator, even on the bottom. The engine will overheat if any of
the ventilation openings is blocked.
Checking the starting system
Undo the maintenance cover screw and remove the cover. Pull out the starter handle and inspect the starter
cord for wear and other damage. Allow the starter cord to recoil slowly.
Cleaning the generator
Always store the generator in a cool and dry environment. The exterior of the generator can be cleaned with one
or a combination of the following:
• A damp cloth
• A soft brush
• A vacuum cleaner
• Compressed air
