6.1.2 Expand the limitation on bandwidth
We define Port Trunking as the ability to group a set of ports into
a single logical link. This is an inexpensive method to increase
throughput between switches. The port trunk acts as single link
between switches. It does not create a loop even though the
ports are physically connected.
From the figure shown below, S1 is connected to S2 through Ports
1 and 2; S2 is connected to S3 via Ports 9,10,11 and 12. We need
to increase the bandwidth of these three-cascaded switches in
order to allow all members to have faster access to the file server.
This can be done by using Port Trunking Configuration.
