12. Performing a Rapid Melt
If you are unsure of the start temperature that should be specified for a melting point determination
you can use the Rapid ramp measurement function to quickly determine an approximate melting
temperature. The Rapid ramp measurement will begin a melting point determination from 50°C and
ramp at a rate of 20°C per minute until the approximate melting point is detected.
❖
From the main menu screen touch ‘Rapid ramp’ and place the capillary tubes in the chamber.
❖
Press ‘START THE RAPID RAMP’.
The Rapid ramp measurement will first heat the sample to 50°C where it will stabilise for 2 minutes.
The block will then heat the sample from 50.0˚C at a rate of 20.0°C/min until the sample has melted.
The melting point will be determined automatically and once finished the results can be reviewed in
the Melt report.
The results from the rapid melt analysis can be used to facilitate the setting of the start temperature
for a more accurate melting point determination.
