Vehicle Load Capacities
VEHICLE LOAD CAPACITIES
Occupant Capacity
The occupant capacity is the maximum allowable weight for occupants (operator and passengers) to operate
the vehicle safely.
Cargo Capacity
The cargo capacity is the maximum amount of load that the vehicle can haul in the attachment arm and cargo bed
and includes the weight of vehicle accessories and trailer tongue weight.
Trailer Tongue Weight
The maximum allowable amount of weight exerted by the trailer tongue onto the trailer hitch.
Gross Trailer Weight
Gross trailer weight is the combination of the trailer weight and the trailer load weight.
Vehicle Rated Capacity
The vehicle rated capacity is the maximum amount of weight on the vehicle. This capacity includes weight of
occupants, bed load, accessories, and trailer tongue weight, but does not include gross trailer weight.
Maximum Gross Vehicle Weight
The maximum gross vehicle weight is the combination of the vehicle weight and the vehicle rated capacity. The stated
maximum gross vehicle weight must not be exceeded to maintain safe vehicle operation.
Maximum Gross Vehicle Combination Weight
The maximum gross vehicle combination weight includes the maximum gross vehicle weight and the gross trailer
weight. The stated maximum gross vehicle combination weight must not be exceeded to maintain safe vehicle
operation.
Attachment Arm Rated Capacity*
The attachment arm rated capacity is the maximum operating load. This capacity includes the weight of the attachment
arm and weight of the attachment’s contents.
If other attachments such as Pallet Forks are used, the attachment arm capacity is reduced as the load center
is moved forward.
* Attachment Arm Rated Capacity is determined by using the standard bucket and material of normal density, such as
dirt or dry gravel. If other attachments such as Pallet Forks are used, the attachment arm capacity is reduced as the
load center is moved forward. If very dense material is loaded, the volume must be reduced
