Catalyst 6500 Series Switches Installation Guide

Chapter 3      Installing the Switch

  Establishing the System Ground

Step 5

Place the grounding wire lug against the grounding pad, making sure that there is solid metal-to-metal 
contact.

Note

There are two system grounding pads on the Catalyst 6509-NEB-A and the Catalyst 6509-V-E 
switch chassis. One pad is located in the upper-left corner of the chassis, and the other is located 
in the upper-right corner of the chassis. Additionally, both system grounding pads have 3 M4 
screw holes so that the system grounding lug can be installed either horizontally or vertically.

Step 6

Secure the grounding lug to the chassis with two M4 screws. Ensure that the grounding lug and the 
grounding wire will not interfere with other switch hardware or rack equipment.

Step 7

Prepare the other end of the grounding wire, and connect it to an appropriate grounding point in your 
site to ensure adequate earth ground for the switch.
