1.6.4 Installation of the memory modules
Increasing the amount of system memory is the most common "on-site" enhancement that is likely to be made to your CIARA Horizon
D10500 / T10500
computer. Increasing your computer’s memory usually involves adding main memory. DDR4 Synchronous Dynamic
Random Access Memory (DDR4 SDRAM) is packaged only in 288-pin Dual In-Line Memory Modules (DIMMs) 3200/3000/2800/2666
MHz.
Your CIARA Horizon D10500 / T10500 uses only DIMM memory modules. Each DIMM module can have a capacity of 8 GB, 16 GB or
32 GB. The minimum system capacity is 8 GB and the maximum system capacity is 128 GB. Furthermore, the memory has to be of the
SPD type (Serial Presence Detect) to insure optimal operation.
NOTE
If you are planning to increase your computer’s memory please contact us to ensure that you select the memory that meets our
specifications, otherwise errors could result.
Install a matched pair of DIMMs equal in speed and size in the black socket of channel A (DIMM A1) and channel B (DIMM B1) as
shown below.
If additional memory is to be used, install another matched pair of DIMMs in the gray socket of channel A (DIMM A2) and channel B
(DIMM B2) as shown below.
If you want to use three DIMMs in a dual-channel configuration, install a matched pair of DIMMs equal in speed and size in DIMM A1
and DIMM B1 of channel 1. Then install another DIMM equal to the speed and total size of the DIMMs installed in channel A in either
DIMM 2 or DIMM 4 of channel B.
If you ignore this recommendation, the system will operate in single channel mode without taking advantage of the dual channel
technology.
You may install 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB unbuffered non-ECC DDR4 DIMMs into the DIMM sockets.
The CIARA Horizon personal computer supports the following types of memory organization :
• Dual channel (Interleaved) mode. This mode offers the highest throughput for real world applications. Dual channel mode is
enabled
when the installed memory capacities of both DIMM channels are equal. Technology and device width can vary from one channel to
the other but the installed memory capacity for each channel must be equal. If different speeds DIMMs are used between channels,
the slowest memory timing will be used.
• Single
channel (Asymmetric) mode. This mode is equivalent to single channel bandwidth operation for real world applications. This
mode is used when only a single DIMM is installed or the memory capacities are unequal. Technology and device width can vary from
one channel to the other. If different speeds DIMMs are used between channels, the slowest memory timing will be used.
Minimum memory configuration for the system is 8 GB. The maximum memory configuration is 128 GB.
