Appendix B: Cleaning the Mirror

B.3.2 Cleaning the Mirror

Do not wipe or rub the mirror surface to avoid damaging the mirror. Only lightly touch or “dab” the mirror.
To remove water droplet rings, marks, and other surface stains:
Use isopropyl alcohol on the corner of a cotton wipe or a swab to “dab” the area. If stains cannot be removed 
with the isopropyl alcohol use acetone as an alternative. Stains located in or under the protective layer can not 
be removed.
To remove finger prints:
1. Use a lint free cotton cloth with acetone and alcohol to dab the stain. For a finger print that is hard to 

remove, use a cotton swab dipped in acetone. 

2. Move the swab in a circular motion across the finger print with 1 pound of pressure. 
3. Remove the swab from the surface. 
4. Using the compressed air, gently blow the area to speed the evaporation of the solvent. 
5. Look for the hazy rainbow of colors left by the finger oils. If the oils remain, repeat the cleaning procedure. 
To clean the entire mirror surface:
1. Put the mirror on a surface with one edge elevated.
2. Fully cover the mirror surface with distilled or de-ionized water. DO NOT let the water dry on the mirror. 
3. Fully cover the mirror surface with alcohol or acetone. All droplets of solvent should be dabbed dry with a 

lint free cotton cloth.
