Seats, restraints

The front airbag system is triggered in

the event of an accident of a certain

severity in the depicted area. The

ignition must be on.

The front airbags are complementary

security devices, which along with the

front seat belts, increase the

protection of the front passengers in

a front collision in a very abrupt

decelerating vehicle. Its function is to

protect the head and the chest

against violent impact on the steering

wheel or the instrument panel in

accidents where the seat belts would

not be enough to prevent serious

injuries and/or death.

The airbag system will not deploy in a

front collision with lower severity, in

which the seat belt will be enough to

protect the passengers, as well as

lateral or rear collisions, rollovers and

slippages and other situations where

the passenger in not projected

towards the front with severity.
It is important to stress that the

velocity of the vehicle and the

deceleration imposed to the

occupants are determinant factors for

the deployment of the airbag.
An electronic module manages the

activation of the system.
The necessity for the ignition of the

gas generators given will inflate the

bags to cushion the contact of the

front occupant with the steering wheel

and the instrument panel.
The sound generated by the

deployment of the airbags, through

the gas generator, is not harmful to

the human auditive system.

Warning

Optimum protection is only

provided when the seat is in the

proper position.

Keep the area in which the airbag

inflates clear of obstructions.
Fit the seat belt correctly and

engage securely. Only then is the

airbag able to protect.

Important recommendations:

■ Never keep any object between the

airbag and the seat occupants, as

in the case of airbag inflation those

may be thrown against the

occupants, causing injuries.

■ Do not install any non-original

accessories in the steering wheel

or the instrument panel, as these

may interfere in the airbag course

at the time it inflates, thus

preventing the system operation or

with them being thrown towards the

occupants, resulting in injury.
