Driving on wet roads

Driving through flooded areas

Flooded areas should be avoided in

any situation. A water covered road

prevents the driver from evaluating its

conditions properly. The damage

caused due to water entry in the

engine and other vehicle parts is not

covered by warranty.

Drive at low speed through any

flooded area and make sure the water

limit does not exceed the height of the

centre of the wheel.

In case driving through any flooded

area is required, do it at low speeds,

around 10 km/h in first gear.
Observe any large vehicles driving

nearby, stay away from large water

waves which increase the chances of

damage. When passing through

flooded areas, the most severe

problem that can occur is the

feasibility of water entering inside the

engine, through the intake air system.

This is known as “hydraulic ram”. The

water does not allow for the pistons

displacement and consequently the

engine components are damaged. In

this case, the engine is severely

damaged and the vehicle will stop

immediately or some time later,

depending on the damage level.
Do not try to operate the engine

again. This could increase the

damage on the vehicle.

Caution

Driving through water streams

could be dangerous. The water

could drag the vehicle causing

drowning. Even a few centimeter

stream may impair the tyre to

ground contact, causing loss of

traction and vehicle roll over. Do

not drive in water streams.

Driving in the rain

Rain and wet roads can mean driving

trouble. On a wet road you cannot

stop, accelerate or turn as well

because the tyre to road grip is not as

good as it would be on dry roads, and,
