2.8 Precautions
When attaching or detaching the microphone, use the fingers only, never use tools. And
never do it when the SC-30 is functioning. Note, if a 200 volt polarised microphone is in
use there will be 200 volts on the centre pin if the unit is ON. This is not dangerous, but
may cause you to drop the microphone capsule.
Never dismantle the microphone, as this might cause permanent damage.
Keep the microphone away from dust and sharp objects.
Avoid excessive humidity and sudden changes in temperature, since this may cause
condensation on the microphone.
Never remove the protection grille from the microphone unless absolutely necessary.
Never touch the diaphragm, unless it is very dirty. Then very carefully remove the dust
using a very fine camel hairbrush.
If anything knocks the SC-30, this is picked up by the microphone and may alter the value
of the measurement.
If the SC-30 is going to be exposed to vibrations, it should be isolated. Pads of foam
rubber or similar material are usually sufficient.
When measurements are being taken in the open air, place the windscreen on the
microphone, since the wind may produce noise which may affect the measurement
accuracy.
If you take measurements holding the SC-30 in your hand, do so with your arm
outstretched. To avoid interference, we recommend that you use the TR-40 tripod and the
CN-010 microphone extension cable. Remember that you must turn the SC-30 off before
you remove the preamp microphone set.
We recommend that you check the SC-30 before and after every measurement, using the
CB006 sound calibrator. See section
2.2.3.
Remove the battery if you are not going to use the SC-30 for a long period.
The
SC-30 sound level meter is built for long-term reliability. Should any
anomaly occur that you can’t solve by changing the battery or consulting the manual, take
the SC-30 to an official
dealer. Never, under any circumstances, have it
repaired by non-qualified personnel.
The SC-30 is equipped with an internal clock fed by a 3V CR2032 lithium button-type
battery, which allows it to keep date and time and configuration. The average life span of
this lithium battery is 10 years.
When the 3 V battery runs out, the internal SC-30 calendar/clock returns to 00:00 hours on
01/01/2000. Access the SC-30 menu to consult the calendar. The battery must be replaced
immediately. Remove it from the slot in the battery compartment (see photo) and replace it
with a new one or contact your official
dealer.
