Using the Radio

A built-in FM radio (87.5MHz to 108.0MHz) lets you enjoy listening to
broadcasts while you walk. This section explains the operations you
need to perform when you want to listen to the radio while exercising.

You can turn on the radio and perform a tuning operation while any
screen is on the display. Note, however, that the “RADIO” indicator
and current frequency are displayed on the stopwatch screen only.

Turning on the Radio

The ear clip wire also functions as the antenna for the radio. Keep the
ear clip connected to the Pulse Monitor whenever you are using the
radio.

Warning!

Never turn on the radio while wearing the Pulse Monitor. Sudden and
loud output from the earpieces can damage your hearing. Always
remove the Pulse Monitor before turning on the radio, and adjust
volume to a comfortable level before putting on the Pulse Monitor.

To turn on the radio while the stopwatch screen is on the
display

1. If the Pulse Monitor is not turned on,

hold down the

POWER

 button for about

two seconds to turn on power.

This will display the stopwatch screen.

2. Press the

RADIO

 button to turn on the

radio.

This will cause the currently tuned
frequency to appear on the screen for
about two seconds.

After that, the display will alternate
between the current radio frequency
and the stopwatch screen.

3. Use the

+

 (increase) and

(decrease) buttons to set the volume to

the level you want.

Holding down either button changes the setting at high speed.

4. Select the frequency you want to listen to.

See “Selecting a Frequency” below for more information.

5. Now you can put on Pulse Monitor and then press the

PULSE

 button

to start a measurement operation.

To turn off the radio

Press the

RADIO

 button.

Selecting a Frequency

There are two ways to select a radio frequency for listening: Auto Scan
and Memory Tuning. With Auto Scan, the radio scans frequencies and
automatically stops at the first receivable frequency that it finds. Memory
Tuning lets you register up to five frequencies in memory for quick and
easy tuning of your favorite stations.

To select the radio tuning mode

While the radio is turned on, hold down the

TUNE

button on the left earpiece for about

two seconds.

This toggles the tuning mode between
Auto Scan and Memory Tuning.

Using Auto Scan

With Auto Scan, the radio scans frequencies and automatically stops at
the first receivable frequency that it finds.

If you have problems finding a receivable frequency with Auto Scan, it
could mean that reception is poor at your current location. Try moving
to a different location and perform Auto Scan again.

To use Auto Scan

1. While the radio is turned on, hold down the

TUNE

 button to select

Auto Scan.

2. Press the

TUNE

 button.

This causes the radio to scan
frequencies and stop at the first
receivable one it finds.

If the radio cannot find a receivable
frequency, it will continue to scan
without stopping. Press the

TUNE

button again to stop scanning.

3. To continue scanning from the current frequency, press the

TUNE

button again.

Using Memory Tuning

Memory Tuning lets you register up to five frequencies in frequency
memory for quick and easy tuning. You can perform the following
procedure while Auto Scan or Memory Tuning is selected as the tuning
mode.

To register a frequency

1. While the radio is turned on, hold down

the

RADIO

 button for about two seconds.

This displays the screen for the
currently selected frequency memory,
with the memory number and
frequency flashing on the display. This
is the frequency registration screen.

2. Press the

MODE/SELECT

button to cycle through frequency memory

screens in numeric sequence (

1

 through

5

).

3. When the screen of the memory whose frequency you want to

change is displayed, use the

+

 (increase) and

 (decrease) buttons to

tune in the frequency you want.

Each press of

+

 or

changes the displayed frequency by 0.1MHz.

Holding down either button changes the frequency at high speed.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to register other frequencies, if you want.
5. After registering all the frequencies you want, press the

RADIO

button to exit the frequency registration screen.

Note

The Pulse Monitor will automatically exit the frequency registration
screen if you leave it on the display for two or three minutes without
performing any button operation.

To tune in a Memory Tuning frequency

1. While the radio is turned on, hold down

the

TUNE

 button to select Memory

Tuning.

2. Press the

TUNE

 button.

This displays the frequency memory
screen for the currently selected
memory number, and tunes in its
frequency.

3. To select the next frequency memory

and tune in its frequency, press the

TUNE

 button again.

Each press of the

TUNE

 button advances

to the next frequency memory number.
