Discharge Modification, Airfoil and Forward-
Curved Fans —
If field modification of discharge po-
sition is required, 39T airfoil and forward-curved fans may
be converted to any standard discharge and hand without any
additional parts, with the following exceptions:
1. Any discharge to downblast rear
2. Downblast rear to any other discharge
3. Model change (Example: 39TH to 39TV)
4. Non-isolated fan to isolated fan
Consult Specified Parts Catalog for difference in
parts. Discharge modification should be done by a skilled
mechanic.
The fan scroll is pre-punched for horizontal or vertical dis-
charge to match the A-frame and support channels at the base
of the unit and sled. To modify the discharge location, refer
to Fig. 74-76, remove section panels as necessary, and pro-
ceed as described in the applicable section that follows.
AIRFOIL FANS, SIZES 07-92; FORWARD-CURVED FANS,
SIZES 17-61 — The long bearing-support channels (see
Fig. 74-76) always mount in the same position in the fan
housing regardless of the discharge location. It is not nec-
essary to remove the long bearing-support channel or change
its position unless the fan wheel must be removed.
Top Horizontal Front (THF) to Upblast Front (UBF) or UBF
to THF:
1. Remove the fan shaft and drive pulley.
2. Remove the screws and drive pulley holding the long and
short bearing-support channels and fan housing to the base
member.
3. Rotate the fan housing, wheel, and support channels to
the new position.
4. Interchange the short bearing-support channels. (Move the
right channel to the left side of the fan and the left chan-
nel to the right side of the fan.) Replace the screws re-
moved in Step 2.
5. Replace the fan shaft and drive pulley on the motor side.
6. Move the motor and motor-base assembly so that the mo-
tor is located in the standard position.
Top Horizontal Front (THF) to Upblast Rear (UBR) or UBR
to THF:
1. Remove the screws holding the long and short bearing-
support channels and fan housing to the base member.
2. Rotate the fan housing, wheel, and support channels to
the new position.
3. Interchange the short bearing-support channels. (Move the
right channel to the left side of the fan and the left chan-
nel to the right side of the fan.) Do NOT move the motor
and motor-base assembly.
4. Replace the screws removed in Step 1.
Top Horizontal Front (THF) to Top Horizontal Rear (THR)
or THR to THF — Vertical Units:
1. Remove the fan shaft and drive pulley.
2. Remove the screws holding the long and short bearing-
support channels and fan housing to the base member.
3. Move the fan housing, wheel, and support channels
to the new position. Replace the screws removed in
Step 2.
4. Replace the fan shaft and drive pulley on the motor side.
5. Move the motor and motor-base assembly so that the mo-
tor is located in the standard position.
Upblast Front (UBF) to Top Horizontal Rear (THR) or THR
to UBF:
Upblast Front (UBF) to Upblast Rear (UBR) or UBR to UBF:
1. Remove the fan shaft and drive pulley.
2. Remove the screws holding the long and short bearing-
support channels and fan housing to the base member.
3. Rotate the fan housing, wheel, and support channels
to the new position. Replace the screws removed in
Step 2.
4. Replace the fan shaft and drive pulley on the motor side.
5. Move the motor and motor-base assembly so that the mo-
tor is located in the standard position.
FORWARD-CURVED FANS, SIZES 07-13 ONLY — Fol-
low the instructions in the previous section on airfoil fan sizes
07-92 and forward-curved fan sizes 17-61, with the follow-
ing exception:
For UBF TO THR, THR TO UBF, UBR TO THF, or THF
TO UBR Conversions:
Remove the long bearing-support channels and reinstall
them on the opposite side. It may be necessary to relocate
the bearings to the second set of holes in the support
channel.
MOTOR LOCATION — The motor and motor base must
be moved to place the motor at the front or rear of unit
(Fig. 74). The proper location is the one that results in the
longest drive centerline distance. The motor may need to be
replaced since the conduit box may need to be reversed: The
conduit box (if not on top) should always be under the
fan shaft for maximum centerline distance and motor
adjustment.
UNITS WITH INLET GUIDE VANES (IGVs) — Note link-
age position and dimensions for linkage (see Fig. 77 and 78).
INTERNALLY-ISOLATED UNIT — When the motor is
moved, then all isolators must be readjusted to assure proper
unit isolation (see Fig. 15 and 16).
RELOCATION OF DISCHARGE PANELS — All panels
will move with discharge or hand selection. (See Fig. 79.)
Rebalancing of the unit is recommended.
Hand Modification, Airfoil and Forward-Curved
Fans —
Remove discharge panels, remove motor and then
relocate scroll and A-frame assembly (Fig. 75-78) to oppo-
site side of unit.
Scroll/frame assembly and motor base rails location will
be the same distance from end of fan sled as in original po-
sition (see Fig. 75-78). Remove fan shaft and reinstall from
drive side. Motor base must be rotated 180 degrees so that
narrow hole pattern is facing fan scroll (Fig. 80).
When motor is moved, all isolators must be readjusted to
assure proper unit isolation (see Fig. 15 and 16).
