7.11 Photosensitive Drum Cleaning

The photosensitive drum cleaning mechanism uses the photosensitive drum cleaning blade to scrape off the residual
toner left behind from transfer; the toner thus collected is moved to the waste toner box.

The waste toner scraped off by the cleaning blade is moved by the waste toner feedscrew to the waste toner box found
at the front of the machine. The waste toner feedscrew is operated by the drive from the drum flange.

Checking the Waste Toner Box

To prevent leakage of waste toner from the waste toner box or to prevent overloading the waste toner feedscrew, the
machine is equipped with a waste toner detection mechanism. The waste toner box can hold about 2043 cc of toner,
and the machine identifies the waste toner box as being full when there is about 1766 cc of toner or when the toner
comes to weigh about 1050 g.
When the weight of waste toner increases, the waste toner case itself lowers on its own, thus causing the machine to
assume that the case has become full.
