Manual sending ________________________________

If you would like to first speak with the person you are sending the document to, use manual
sending. You need to connect the handset (included with your fax) or an optional extension phone to
the fax for manual sending.

Follow the procedure below to send a document using manual sending.

1

Open the document tray.

2

Load the document face down into the
Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

See Loading documents, p. 3-3.
You can set the scanning resolution and contrast.
(see p. 6-2)

3

Pick up the handset or press [Hook] and dial the
receiving party’s fax number.

Use one of the dialling methods described earlier in
this chapter. (see p. 6-4)

4

If a person answers, converse normally, then
ask them to press the start button on their fax.
Press [Start/Copy] and hang up.

If you hear a high pitch tone, press [Start/Copy] and
hang up.

n

• You can press [Hold] during a call to put the call on hold for up to 10 minutes. After 10 minutes have

passed, the call will be taken off hold automatically. If the handset is in its cradle when this occurs,
the call is disconnected.

• The fax will beep if the handset is not hung up properly. Make sure the handset is seated properly in

its cradle. If you do not want the fax to beep, disable the OFFHOOK ALARM setting. (see p. 9-3)

• If an error occurs during sending, the fax beeps intermittently for a few seconds. If this happens, try

sending the document again.

• If an error message appears on the LCD, correct the error and then press [Stop]. See LCD messages,

p. 10-18.
