Cleanliness
Thoroughly clean all winch area,
including pulling rope or cable out for
cleaning. Avoid strong detergents.
Synthetic rope
Verify if rope has any damage, replace if
damaged.
Wire cable
Look for kinks, tight loops, or broken
wire strands
Roller fairlead
Ensure area is clean, remove any
obstructions, verify there is no damage
or bends and that rollers run smoothly
Hook
Verify hook is not crooked or damaged,
and that hook latch closes properly
Hand strap
Ensure hand strap is present. Always
use hand strap to avoid injury.
Switch condition
Ensure no cracks or exposed wires
Motor operation
Ensure the motor works properly, also
verify free spool works properly
Battery condition
Ensure battery will have sufficient
charge for operating the winch. When
possible let engine idle while using the
winch.
Ensure terminal screws are properly
tightened.
Solenoid condition
Ensure terminal nuts are properly
tightened.
