CAUTION
Risk of injury (burns) with open oil filler orifice.
Risk of injury in case of badly screwed-in plugs.
Remove the oil filler plugs only when the vacuum pump is stopped.
The vacuum pump must only be operated when the oil filler plugs
are firmly tightened up and do not leak.
l
Make sure that the vacuum pump is switched off and cannot
accidentally be switched on again
l
Remove the oil filler plugs (OFP)
l
Top up with oil
l
Make sure that the oil level is 3 mm above the middle of the oil
sight glass
l
Make sure that the seals of the oil filler plugs are not damaged and
replace plugs if necessary
l
Refit the oil filler plugs and tighten up
Colour of the oil
NOTE
: The original colour of the oil used on the COBRA NC vacuum
pumps is dark. Under operation, no indication can be provided by
means of the colour.
Changing the oil
DANGER
In case the vacuum pump has conveyed gases that have been
contaminated with harmful foreign materials, the oil will also be
contaminated.
Danger to health during the change of contaminated oil.
Danger to the environment.
Wear protective equipment during the change of contaminated oil.
Contaminated oil is hazardous waste and must be disposed of
separately in compliance with applicable regulations.
Draining used oil
NOTE
: After switching off the vacuum pump at normal operating
temperature drain the oil within 20 minutes.
l
Make sure that the vacuum pump is switched off and cannot
accidentally be switched on again
l
Make sure that the vacuum pump is vented to atmospheric
pressure
l
Put a drain tray underneath the oil drain plugs (ODP)
l
Remove the oil drain plugs (ODP)
l
Carefully remove the drain plugs
l
Drain the oil
l
Because of wear and tear on the seals replace the current drain
plugs with new ones
l
Check that no metal swarf sticks to the magnetic plug (MP), clean
or change it if necessary
l
Refit the oil drain plugs and tighten up
l
Dispose of the used oil in compliance with applicable regulations
CAUTION
Because the ends of the drain plugs are magnetic, metal swarf can
stick to them. Always clean away this swarf when removing the
drain plugs.
Because of wear and tear of the seals, it is recommended to replace
the drain plugs whenever the oil is changed.
Filling in new oil
l
Prepare the quantity of oil needed (see “Oil type/quantity”)
NOTE
: The quantity of oil specified in the operating instructions is of
informative nature only. Check the oil level with the help of the various
oil sight glasses on the vacuum pump.
l
Make sure that the oil drain plugs have been fitted properly and
that they don’t leak
CAUTION
Only fill in oil through the oil filler orifices.
l
Remove the oil filler plugs (OFP)
l
Fill in oil
l
Make sure that the oil level is 3 mm above the middle of the oil
sight glass
l
Make sure that the seals of the oil filler plugs are not damaged and
replace plugs if necessary
l
Refit the oil filler plugs and tighten up
Checking the cooling liquid
Checking the level of the cooling liquid
l
Check the level of the cooling liquid on the expansion vessel (h)
l
The cooling liquid level must be between the MIN/ MAX marks of
the expansion vessel (EV)
If the level is below the middle:
u
Top up with cooling liquid (see “Refilling cooling liquid”)
Topping up with cooling liquid
NOTE
: Under normal conditions, there should be no need to top up
with cooling liquid in-between the recommended change intervals. A
significant drop in the cooling liquid level indicates a malfunction (see
“Troubleshooting”).
l
Make sure that the vacuum pump is switched off and cannot
accidentally be switched on again
CAUTION
Wait until pump has cooled down to ambient temperature
l
Let the pump cool down
l
Remove the cooling liquid filler plug (CLF) on the cylinder
l
Fill up until the cooling liquid level is between the MIN/ MAX
marks of the expansion vessel (EV)
l
Stop the filling
l
Make sure that the seal ring of the cooling liquid filler cover is not
damaged, replace cover if necessary
l
Refit the cooling liquid filler cover and tighten up
l
If there is any spillage on the surface of the expansion vessel (EV)
and the vacuum pump, wipe it up
