To configure the unit for GPRS
If your SIM supports it, you can connect to the internet using the
higher speed GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) connection.
This will provide data rates typically between 40 to 60 kbps, de-
pending on network congestion, signal quality and other variables.
Contact your service provider for details. To use GPRS, an additional
modem initialisation command is required:
1 Open the Windows Control Panel (
Start > Control Panel
) and run
‘Phone and Modems Options’. Change to the Modems tab, high-
light the entry named ‘Standard 19200 bps modem’ and click the
Properties button.
2 Click on the Advanced tab and edit the ‘Extra initialization com-
mands’ field:
Enter
at+cgdcont=,ip,
xyzinternet
where
xyxinternet
is specified by your service provider.
This special command will not interfere with operations when us-
ing the same installation for standard modem and fax.
2 Click OK to save and then click OK to exit the ‘Phone and Modem
Options’ dialog box.
3 Within the Windows Control Panel, run the Network Connections
option. Run the New Connection Wizard and select the following
options as you work through it: ‘Connect to the Internet’ > ‘Set up
my connection manually’ > ‘Connect using a dial-up modem’ >
Choose the new ‘Standard 19200 bps modem’ > Enter a con-
nection name > Enter ‘
