CABLE/ROPE SHEAR

MAINTENANCE SECTION

CABLE/ROPE SHEAR ADjuSTMENT PROCEDuRE

1. To adjust the cable/rope shear, after the clearance has been checked first loosen the cable/rope shear

adjustment cover on either side of the drum housing.

  2.  Remove the two adjustment hex bolts on each side cable/rope shear mount bar.
  3.  Clean the Loc-Tite off the adjustment hex bolts and from the mounting holes.
  4.  Move the cable/rope shear to the correct clearance.
  5.  Once the knife is set to the correct clearance, .120 inches (3.0 mm), retighten all components.
  6.  Apply Loc-Tite 242 (blue) to the adjustment hex bolts and torque them to 180 ft-lbs (244 Nm).
  7.  Tighten the cable/rope shear adjustment covers.
  8.  Remove the drum lock pin and carefully rotate the chipper drum to make sure all the knives clear the

cable/rope shear.

Before attempting any type of maintenance disengage clutch, turn off engine, wait for the drum to come to
a complete stop, install the disc/drum lock pin, disconnect battery, and make sure the ignition key is in your
possession.

CABLE/ROPE SHEAR COuNTER kNIfE REPLACEMENT

1. To replace the cable/rope shear counter knife, first remove the cable/rope shear adjustment cover on

either side of the drum housing.

  2.  Remove the two adjustment hex bolts on each side cable/rope shear mount bar.
  3.  Move the cable/rope shear towards the feed system.
  4.  Pull the counter knife and mount out the side of the drum housing.
  5.  Remove the counter knife bolts.
  6.  Clean the loc-tite off the counter knife bolts and from the mounting holes.
  7.  Install the new counter knife to the mount bar.
  8.  Apply Loc-Tite 242 (blue) to the counter knife bolts and torque them to 15 ft-lbs (20 Nm).
  9.  Slide the cable/shear assembly back through the side of the drum housing and set into place.
  9.  Follow the CABLE/SHEAR ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE to finish installing the cable/shear
   assembly.
  10. Remove the drum lock pin and carefully rotate the chipper drum to make sure all the knives clear the

cable/rope shear.

Before attempting any type of maintenance disengage clutch, turn off engine, wait for the drum to come to
a complete stop, install the disc/drum lock pin, disconnect battery, and make sure the ignition key is in your
possession.
